Welcome to the new IS.Net boards!

We're back!
Posted Wed Jan 31, 2007 9:48 pm by Vortagh
Ankündigungen As said in the eMail you should all have recieved by now, the boards are back after a long period in which Fel and I tried to find out how to move a German-owned domain to a Canadian host.

Everything finally worked out great (for the first time ever we didn't loose ANY date at all!) and now we are going to fine-tune things, add stuff for our admin tasks and then see what we'll do next.

Tomorrow or the day after I will update the board to the newest version, which will mean that for an hour or two (or three) the boards will be closed again, so I can work on the code files in quiet solitude.
I might deactivate most of the styles for that purpose, so don't come crying right away just because your style will be offline for a week!

The future of the IS.Net domain
Posted Fri Apr 01, 2005 3:42 pm by Vortagh
Ankündigungen In the past months we had quite a few talks about the future of the domain and the messageboards attached to its (the ones you are reading now, Dummkopf! Razz), but we could never really come up with something.

Well, I finally realized what to do with the entire IS.Net domain, now that I am Tactical Co-ordinator.
As many of you here will remember, IS.Net used to be a hosting place for squadron homepages (hence the name). Ever since that basically died with the old GE, I have been asking myself what to do with the domain. Let's be realistic - there never was much content added to the page by me, because it was never intended to have THAT much content added by me. Instead it was intended to act as a place where other people can put their content.

Well, now I am TC and I figured right away, that IS.Net will be the new base of operations for the TC and a big base it will be.

Currently there's not much more content than there ever was before, but I am working on taking the design of the old NavyTC page and adding lots of things to it.
Amongst other it will feature subsections dealing with editors (their use, manuals and explanations, FAQs and examples), tips on good mission design and what to forget (aka "The Rogue Squadron Syndrom" - TRSS Razz), academy course texts and so on.
Currently I have finished the work on a section for XWA, but I made it for the old IS.Net layout. A layout far too sucky and not worth looking at it. Razz

So, now I have to change the layout to the new TC pages (they will look like the ones features in the link above, because I will take over those files. Razz) and see what I can do with PHP.

Polanski, La Forge and I also have to find a way to let my pages connect to their database, something that isn't really allowed by their webhosts standards.

Well, as you can see, the future looks great for IS.Net.
When this is all up and running, we might even attract new members who visit these pages. I will definitely get the pages linked on ever TIE/XWA/XvT fanpage there is on the web... Razz

Rules, READ before you start posting on the boards!
Posted Tue Dec 14, 2004 11:11 pm by Vortagh
Ankündigungen New rules! Summary of rules for the ImperialSquadrons.Net Messageboards!

1.) SPAM

Do NOT spam. I consider the following spam:

a) Posting without need, "just to post", "just to answer as many posts as possible". Read: If you have nothing constructive to say, i.e. just want to say "hahaha!" or similar, do NOT post.

b) Posting stuff that belongs into the OT board on other boards. Everything that is OT, goes into the OT board, and not on any other board. If you have a tech question, go to the Tech board, etc.

(Contrary to other times, I do NOT mind posts going off topic. However, I WILL split&move them into the OT board if they go completely OT. Also completely OT threads WILL be moved! This does NOT mean that you can just post OT Threads anywhere, "cause the Admin will move them". Razz

c) Posting "one word/one smiley" posts. I have no problem with the occassional "Wow, that was cool!" or similar posts, when somebody writes down a story/posts a picture/etc, but at least *try* to cut your posting to what is needed/acceptable in other topics!

d) Replying to older (or ancient [or pre stone age ]) topics is *perfectly ok* if you have something interesting to say that adds to the rest of the conversation/brings up a new point/etc! Of course new members are welcome to post answers to older threads!

2.) General behaviour

a) These boards are "free", you CAN swear. HOWEVER, I follow the rule that I do not swear constantly. That translates to you can say stuff like "god, my computer is pissing me off constantly so I need your help getting a few new parts", but NOT - I REPEAT - NOT "My fucking computer shithole is pissing me off so I need some fucking new parts".

(We didn't have problems with that yet, but I felt like adding it.)

b) CHECK. THE. SYSOPS. BROADCAST. BOARD. FOR. NEW POSTS. EVERYTIME. YOU. VISIT.!. - This is ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY. Apparently people never check this board, resulting in not following guidelines. From now on I will enforce this strikter. Don't follow a rule and you will get a heads up from me (or the other ops). Still don't follow the rules, get a short ban. Still not? A feisty one, eh? Permban.
